Fatal accident at Litchfield lake is subject of wrongful death suit

A Madison County man is accused of being drunk when he drove his boat into a Godfrey girl, killing her.
Kari Klopfer, on behalf of her minor daughter, filed a lawsuit Sept. 1 in Madison County Circuit Court against Eric Hazelwonder.
According to the complaint, Klopfer's daughter was visiting a lake near Litchfield in July 2010 when she was hit and killed by a motorboat driven by Hazelwonder. Klopfer alleges Hazelwonder was driving the boat while intoxicated.
Klopfer accuses Hazelwonder of wrongful death and asks for more than $100,000 in damages plus court costs.
