Republican Dwight Kay of Glen Carbon appears to have upset incumbent Democrat Jay Hoffman of Collinsville.
With all precincts reporting in Madison County, Kay topped Hoffman 16,592 votes to Hoffman's 14,961 votes.
In St. Clair County, with all but two precincts reporting, Hoffman led Kay 2,574 to 2,421.
Totals as of 10:15 p.m. show Kay leading Hoffman 19,013 to 17,535.
