Dodge Ram grab bar loose and insecure, suit claims

7/30/2008 3:36 PM

Chrysler LLC and Dave Croft Motors of Collinsville are named in a product liability suit brought by a woman who claims she broke her elbow last month because of a loose and insecure overhead grab bar in a Dodge Ram 1500 ST pickup truck.

Shara L. Nichols claims she fell and hit the pavement when the grab bar on her 2004 model pickup broke as she attempted to enter the vehicle on June 19, according to a complaint filed July 29 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Nichols claims her severely broken arm required plates and screws to be surgically affixed in her arm.

Her husband, Reggie W. Nichols, Jr., is a co-plaintiff seeking damages for loss of consortium.

They are represented by Thomas Q. Keefe, Jr. of Belleville.

The suit claims Chrysler is allegedly negligent for selling a defective and unreasonably danger product.

Dave Croft Motors, which sold and serviced the vehicle, is allegedly negligent for failing to discover that the grab bar was loose and insecure.

Plaintiffs are seeking in excess of $300,000 in damages.
