4/22/2008 4:16 PM

Belleville resident Kathleen McGlynn was named one of Illinois' top two youth volunteers for 2008 by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a nationwide program honoring young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism.

Kathleen is a senior at Althoff Catholic High School and a Front Desk Representative at the Downtown Belleville YMCA, representing the YMCA of Southwest Illinois.

She earned the prestigious award for creating more than 100 recipes for children with common stomach disorders and published a cookbook, Yummies for Sensitive Tummies.

She also designed a website, www.sensitivetummies.com to educate children with sensitive stomachs about healthy food and lifestyle choices. When her cookbook was completed, she distributed free copies to children's hospitals in the U.S. and Canada, and through her website.
