By Ann Knef -Belleville Bureau

40 Rugby Dr.
A woman hired to supervise children at a Belleville swimming pool claims her left eye had to be replaced with a cadaverous eye after she sustained a fungal eye infection from un-chlorinated water.

Tabitha Romious filed suit against property owners Cynthia and Ralph Chancy in St. Clair County Circuit Court Aug. 2, seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages.

Romious claims she was a business invitee of the Chancys on Aug. 18, 2005, at 40 Rugby Dr.

"Unknown to plaintiff, defendants...failed to treat the water with chlorine and chemical treatment," the complaint states.

Romious sustained a "fungal and polymicrobial infection to her left eye that ate and consumed her cornea and lens," the complaint states.

She claims her eye was replaced with an eye of a "different person and color" and that the situation greatly diminished her enjoyment of life.

Represented by Brian Stokes of the Stokes Law Office in St. Louis, Romious also claims she has incurred lost wages and will continue to incur lost wages in the future.
