Son sues salon owner's estate for mother's wrongful death

The son of a Belleville woman who was brutally murdered at a hair salon March 2 is suing the estate of the shop's owner in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
William Healy filed a wrongful death suit against the estate of Michael Cooney--who was also stabbed to death at the salon on West Main Street in Belleville.
Healy claims Cooney failed to exercise reasonable care in the ownership, operation and management of his property.
Cooney created a "highly dangerous condition" on his property by the lack of adequate safety measures and devices, failed to provide a locking entrance to prevent unlawful persons from entering, and failed to install proper, adequate or sufficient electronic surveillance devices to ensure the safety of his customers, the suit claims.
As a result, his mother suffered mortal injuries which caused her severe physical pain and mental anguish prior to her death and her family has suffered the loss of her affection, companionship, society and instruction, Healy claims.
Seeking damages in excess of $100,000, Healy is represented by Joseph Hildebrand of Kassly, Bone, English & Hildebrand of Belleville.
